* The Sakakini hosted a first of its kind exhibit original works and prints by a master of XX Th. century art: Victor Vasarely. The show was made possible by Tibor Csepei, owner of the collection exhibited, and friend of the artist. The opening was followed by a slide show and lecture about the artist’s work.

* Lecture by Dr. Suad Amiry, Riwaq’s director, on Palestinian Throne Villages, their history and architectural characteristics. These villages dotting the Palestinian countryside, served as tax collection centers, and were the seats of landed families who transplanted there the architectural styles of 19th century Palestinian urban mansions.

* Two video documentaries were screened: A Tony Palmer documentary on Maria Callas, and the BBC series "Sister Wendy’s Odyssey".

* Book discussion: Jamal Qawasmeh’s latest short story collection ""Chama fi Assama" -a Mole in the Sky-, with critic Walid Abu Baker and novelist Ahmed Harb, in presence of the author

* The Centre also saw the opening of its first theater play, the monodrama "Qissat Safiya `ala Lissane Jozha Shafiq Abu Sakher". (The Story of Safiyya, as Told by her Husband Shafiq Abu Sakher". Starring Zuheir Nobani,. The play was adapted and directed by Yacoub Ismail, its text based on Syrian playwright's monodrama "Hal el Dunia". The play recounts the lonely and miserable life of a woman called Safiyya, as told by her husband in a monologue taking place a day after she has died of a long illness..

* The Sakakini received a generous donation from the British Council: a number of cultural video documentaries that will be screened throughout the year at the Centre. The cassettes will also be loaned to educational institutions.
