1997 MARCH The Centre hosted this month an exhibition of modern Russian Art, loaned by Palestinian collector Daoud Barakat. The collection contains works by Tymour, Vukolov, Dudnig, Kashishvili, Diana Voba, Sergei Borsov, etc. The Centre also hosted the following events: -A conference by Palestinian American author Lisa Majaj on Identity construction in Palestinian American literature, -A poetry reading evening by poet Ali el Khalili , -A lecture on the destructive Israeli excavations under the Jerusalem holy mosques esplanade by Issam Awwad, the engineer supervising the renovation work on the mosques since 1972, -A meeting with Artist Tayseer Barakat with a slide display showing the evolution of his work from his mid-1980s oil paintings, to work on paper, to his current phase of working with wood and installations. - The Centre also hosted a tribute organized by the Ministry of Culture, honoring veteran Palestinian painters Ismail Shammout and his wife Tamam el Akhal. Shammout and Al Akhal are considered the Palestinian Rivera/Siqueros for their portrayal of the Palestinian struggle, and pre-1948 Palestinian scenes.
