NOVEMBER

Greetings:
We present to you our monthly program for November 2001. It features a poetry evening, a film premiere, an exhibit, a concert, two kids’ activities, and our monthly Book Club.
We are also pleased to inform you that the Sakakini will be holding 3 activities at Beit Al-Hajar in Birzeit. The listing of activities will follow the Sakakini ones…

**CONCERT: "CINQUI SO" CORSICAN SINGING
**THURSDAY 1/11 @ 7:00 PM

With the generous support of the French Cultural Center-Jerusalem, the "Five Senses" singing group will perform songs from the Mediterranean Island of Corsica. the show is one of a kind as it depends solely on singing instead of musical instruments (Acapella singing). The group sings in French, Italian and in the Corsican dialect.

KIDS OPEN DAY!!!
** EXHIBIT: KIDS DRAWINGS
**MONDAY 5/11 @ 3:00 PM

A kids exhibit for the first time at the Sakakini! The exhibit is open to visitors of all ages.

**KIDS ACTIVITY "LETS PLAY, LETS SING!!"
** MONDAY 5/11 @ 4:30 PM

Fadi Al-Ghoul and Safar productions present various fun activities for kids, the show consists of games, prizes and a singing piece. The kids will learn the words to a song and sing it together.

**BOOK CLUB: "SHIHAB" BY SAFI SAFI
**SATURDAY 17/11 @ 5:00 PM

The book club will host Safi Safi for a book signing & discussion of his new novel "Shihab". Shihab is unlike any other person in the little town of "Yaseera"; he is a frequent visitor there, his ultimate concern is to get a deed (Kooshan) for the land he inherited from his father and grandfather. What will happen to him, and what does this novel mean? Read the novel, and participate in the discussion.

**POETRY READING: "NUSOOS MIN TAREEQ AL'AWD" (PROSE FROM THE WAY BACK) BY KIFAH FANNI
**WEDNESDAY 21/11 @ 7:00

Kifah's first collection "Nosoos min tareeq al'awd" is a detail of a return journey from places in constant flux, rituals to deconstruct one's ego. Where a moment will shine with magic that cannot be articulated, where it just happens…

**FILMS: "ATFAL WA LAKIN" (CHILDREN, BUT…) & "WA BAID" (THEREAFTER)
** SATURDAY 24/11 @ 7:00 PM

The film "Atfal wa lakin" was made in Lebanon, it takes the story of a group of Palestinian kids who live in an orphanage, the film shows a realistic picture of the kids, what they think, how they play, and what they draw. The film was produced in 1982, but still it presents a realistic & sad picture of the situation at that moment in time, part of the history that we do not want to forget& is still relevant in 2001…
(directed by Khadeeji Abu-Ali, Arabic language, French subt., 1982. 24 min.)

"Wa baid" was made in Palestine, it takes the story of a group of Palestinian kids from Ramallah and its vicinity. The film shows a realistic picture of children's lives during the ongoing Intifada.
(directed& produced by : Anas Al-Ili, Rama Al-Hajj & Wafa Al-Hoorani. Arabic language, English subtitles, 2001. 15 min.)
(The directors will be there to discuss the two films.)

The Sakakini announces that it will embark on a goodwill program in Ramadan. This program is directed toward the people who have suffered the most under the closure and Israeli aggression; the wounded, students and low ranking soldiers who live far away from their families and can't visit them. The program consists of four "iftar" (break-the-fast) meals followed by a musical/ entertainment activity at the Centre. The guests will then receive care packages while leaving.
The Centre is looking for volunteers who can help with the organizing of such a program; if you can donate your time, money, or help with the campaign to collect items for the care packages. Or, if you have any good ideas, please call the Centre or pass by. Your support is necessary to make these Ramadan evenings work & show solidarity with the people who have suffered the most…

Sakakini Video Club: The video collection hosts more than 500 English language videos, classics and award winners. We are open to customers Sat-Thr 9-3 and during activities.
(5 NIS per movie & 50 NIS refunded insurance fee).

Please purchase Ibrahim Nasrallah's latest poetry collection, "Mirrors of angels" (Maraya Al-malai'ka) written about Iman Hijjo, the infant who was killed by Israeli Occupation forces on the 7th of May 2001. Nasrallah has donated all the proceeds of this collection to the Centre.
