Considered a classic of the Iraqi screen, an adaptation of “The River and Ashes” by Mohammad Shakir al-Sab`.The film is in the style of Italian Neo- Realism.
Mahmoud is an intellectual and a rebel who has no future. The boss who controls the river exploits the fishermen who work hard but who don’t make enough to live on. Mahmoud organizes them but then disappears in mysterious circumstances. Salah continues the struggle.
