The Artist:

Suha Shoman was born in Jerusalem in 1944, and studied law in Lebanon. She studied painting in Amman, Jordan, with artist Fahrelnissa Zeid. She has participated in a number of solo and group exhibits in the Arab world, Asia, Europe, the US, as well as in the Palestinian Cultural Spring art exhibit of 1997. Shoman founded and runs the artistic complex Darat el Funun in Amman (library, exhibit space, artists’ residences, performing arts venue, etc..). She is an honorary member of the Sakakini General Assembly.


Her work:

Since 1986 Shoman’s bold and large sized works (canvas, paper, and installations) have been inspired by the colors and textures of the rocks of the ancient city of Petra, south of Jordan.
