The three artists in this exhibition all speak of the importance of their relationship to the environment, which is their main source of inspiration.  In their paintings each artist in his or her own way attempts to represent their particular impressions of the landscape and the elements which touch and evoke their inner selves. The works of the artists have all evolved from academic methods of depiction to more expressive techniques of representation. All three artists in this  show present the new directions in their work and their particular ways of representing the world around them.

Maha Daya's canvases begin life as sketches taken from her windows or outdoors. Her unassuming and  sensitive landscapes attempt to reveal the beauty in her everyday  surroundings that she evokes through her choices of colour and textured surface.

--------------------------------

Mohammad Dabbous's work stands in marked contrast. He was deeply influenced by his participation in summer workshop at Darat Al Funun in Amman, with the artist Marwan in which he developed expressive ways of representing his environments and journeys through spaces. His research of landscapes comprise of paintings of the tranquil surrounding of Darat al Funun and the harsh terrain of Gaza, such as Beit Hanoun which is scarred by destruction. Hence unlike the other artists in this show his landscapes are more severe an impression which is evoked through his use of dark colours and abstract masses.

Mohammad Mousallam also takes his impetus from nature and his surroundings, which he sees as a way of reaching deeper into himself. For him, his  canvases constitute a  form of research a feeling that is imparted to us through the thick encrusted surfaces, the creation of which he likens to sculpting. Mousallam uses strong contrasting vibrant colours that give his canvases an explosive energy while others are at times light and airy. In many cases we can discern particular forms in the paintings or figures which vibrate as they dissolve into the surface of the canvas.
